Let’s be honest, ministry is hard work. The hours are long, the work can sometimes be challenging (but rewarding!) and at times you can feel like you are juggling multiple things at once. That certainly has been me during my time in ministry.
When I first started working in ministry, it was also my first full-time job out of college. While in college, I worked two part-time jobs, was involved with multiple clubs on campus and of course had my school work. I was used to burning the candle at both ends as an effort to “be successful” in school.
After graduating from college and working in my first ministry job, I didn’t know what to expect nor what the expectation was. I quickly found myself working 10 to 12 hours a day, as I had meetings early in the morning and scheduled late at night (no one taught me to be strategic when scheduling meetings!) I also found myself saying “yes” to every job I was given and did not know that I could say “no” to some things being put onto my plate. I did this for years and it was not until years later I realized balance in ministry is something to be practiced, as a way to provide for your own health and wellness.
“Balance” is not a word you often hear in ministry, but it is important that it is mentioned more often. Thanks to some incredible mentors and teachers throughout the years, I have been able to grow as a minister while ensuring I have balance in my life. However, I still struggle with achieving “balance” at times – both in ministry and in my personal life.
I am excited to share in 2024 I will be rolling out some resources to help you achieve balance from a faith perspective. Wellness and ministry are two topics of passion for me and I am excited to share that with others!
